Here our company’s role and impact in accelerating Southeast Asia’s energy transition was shared, with insightful details on our work in Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines, our key markets of focus in the region. There are perhaps few better examples of the fervour with which we pursue our mission – to act to accelerate the transition towards a carbon-neutral economy – than our work in Southeast Asia. Here, amid complex geographic diversity and exceptional economic dynamism, where growth, innovation, and sustainability converge, ENGIE is driving impact at scale to uncouple growth from emissions and enable the emerging ‘factory of the world’ to realise its net-zero future.

ENGIE's holistic lesser energy and greener energy value proposition focuses on three pivotal growth verticals for the region: Industry, Real Estate, and Data Centres. From collaborating with niche pharmaceutical and speciality manufacturers in the industry sector to landmark energy efficiency projects in real estate and providing comprehensive support to data centres, we are acting throughout the entirety of the energy value chain to enable the region’s meteoric growth to continue without compromising its sustainability commitments.

Impact at Scale: The power of partnerships
Partnerships are the linchpin of our regional strategy. With a geographical focus on Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines, we are actively seeking, building, and leveraging partnerships to answer the regions’ most urgent sustainability challenges, among them: cooling, transport, and energy. Notable collaborations with ComfortDelGro, Sunway, and Filinvest exemplify our approach to scaling solutions in our key markets. 

Driving sustainability in Singapore’s transport sector with ComfortDelGro
In 2021, we met with ComfortDelGro to discuss the electrification of their fleet and soon after our first joint venture (JV), CDG ENGIE, followed. Through CDG ENGIE we are working to not only decarbonise ComfortDelGro’s vehicle fleets but deploy electric vehicle (EV) chargers at scale in support of the Singapore Green Plan 2030, the city-state’s whole-of-nation movement to advance sustainable development. As of the end of 2023, CDG ENGIE had secured over 5,000 EV charging points and extended its charging network across the border by partnering with a Malaysian EV charging provider, paving the way for greater EV adoption for local communities. With ComfortDelGro we also launched a second JV in 2022, ComfortDelGro ENGIE Solar Pte Ltd, to support the electrification of their fleet and offer onsite fast charging solutions powered by solar.

Expanding access to energy-efficient cooling in Malaysia with Sunway
We partnered with Sunway in 2022 forming JV ENGIE-SUNWAY DCS Sdn Bhd (ENGIE-SUNWAY) to boost Malaysia’s environmental sustainability efforts by providing energy efficient, sustainable cooling solutions to the country’s real estate and mixed-use property market. As part of the partnership, ENGIE will also help Sunway reduce the carbon emissions and energy consumption required to cool Sunway’s portfolio of properties, starting with Sunway South Quay Commercial Precinct 2 (CP2), for which we entered into an agreement in 2022 to Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) a district cooling system (DCS). With Sunway, we look forward to providing a total end-to-end value proposition for district cooling solutions covering engineering, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance, both for greenfield and brownfield development projects and contributing to furthering Malaysia's sustainability journey in line with its commitments under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Accelerating the Philippine’s energy transition with Filinvest
Filinvest, one of the Philippines' largest and most respected diversified conglomerates, embarked on a partnership with ENGIE in 2015 to advance the Philippines’ energy transition through sustainable development. Since then, we have formed three joint ventures – Philippine DCS Development Corporation (PDDC) in 2015 for sustainable cooling, Filinvest-ENGIE Renewable Energy Enterprise (FREE) for solar, and Professional Operations and Maintenance Experts (PROMEI) for integrated facilities management – and are on track to deliver approximately 180,000 tonnes of CO2 savings through ongoing projects. We are also deploying over 18 megawatts (MW) of solar and look forward to continuing to foster more environmentally sustainable economic development in the country together.

Charting the Path Ahead
Leveraging the expertise of our over 2,000 local employees, ENGIE is championing a strategic and holistic approach to the Southeast Asia’s transition towards net zero. We provide energy solutions, advisory, research and innovation through ENGIE South East Asia, ENGIE Impact, ENGIE Global Energy Management & Sales, ENGIE Factory, ENGIE Lab, RED Engineering, and ENGIE’s Renewables Global Business Unit. 

ENGIE has helped the region avoid nearly 400k tonnes of CO2 emissions in just the past decade, yet our key markets of Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines currently contribute around 410,000 tonnes of combined carbon equivalent emissions each year. While we have achieved much in Southeast Asia, much more remains to be done.

Our work, our vision, isn't just about energy—it's about redefining the future of Southeast Asia, one powered by innovation, collaboration, and sustainable progress. The lessons we learn here in this small but intrinsically important region will propel the energy revolution far beyond Southeast Asia, providing key markers in the roadmap towards global carbon neutrality.
